ELEMENTAL FRAMES – Student Design Competition

INTRODUCTION

The School of Architecture and Planning (SoAP), Babu Banarasi Das University, organized the “Elemental Frames – Student Design Competition” on 14 January 2026 as a foundation-level academic initiative aimed at strengthening students’ understanding of Elements and Principles of Design through experiential and practice-based learning.

The competition encouraged first-year students to explore visual narratives and stories drawn from movies, books, or moral stories and interpret them through abstract three-dimensional compositions. Rather than focusing on literal representation, students were guided to frame narratives using design elements such as line, form, space, colour, and texture, while applying principles including balance, rhythm, emphasis, repetition, and harmony.

The event culminated in a model exhibition and jury presentation, providing students with an opportunity to articulate their design intent, communicate conceptual thinking, and engage in critical discussion.
